SHARKS GOES GLOBAL - Donation appreciated in Zambia
Sharks Sports proudly support not only local community initiatives but go global for the first time. Sue Smith from Red Beach School has returned from a trip to Zambia where she recently took part in the ChildFund Global Schools programme.
ChildFund Global Schools is a genuine two way exchange of information, ideas and experiences between schools in the developing world and New Zealand. The aim of ChildFund Global Schools is to help boost the quality of education in developing countries like Zambia while exposing Kiwi teachers and schools to the issues facing developing countries.
Sharks Sports Trust donated Soccer balls to Sue to hand out to the children who are Soccer crazy. Sue Smith reports: "Hi Sandi, I'm back from Zambia and want to tell you how much the balls were appreciated. Because our group were split across 4 schools and there were so many balls, it was decided to share them. To say that they were popular would be a huge understatement! With the World Cup coming up next year in nearby South Africa, football fanaticism is reaching new heights and the kids couldn't wait to start practising.
The photos show a group of very happy boys and Madame Chabula Mweshi. She would like me to pass on her thanks for your gift and I'm sure the children do too.
We can't change everything but we can change some things. Thank you for making a difference for these children.
Regards
Sue Smith"

SHARKS TRANS TASMAN
TOUCH CHALLENGE 2009
The inaugural Trans Tasman Touch Challenge between Sharks New Zealand and South Queensland Sharks will be held on the Gold Coast, Australia on October 6 - October 11 this year.
Nine Sharks New Zealand touch teams from U13’s through to Over 45’s will participate in club games along the Gold Coast as a build up to the ‘Sharks Challenge’ that will be played between the NZ and Queensland Sharks Representative teams on Saturday October 10.
Sharks Sports Club, Orewa boasts New Zealands largest touch membership with approximately 3000 members with 7 touch competitions operating over the North Harbour region.
New Zealand Sharks will take to the Gold Coast what could possibly be one of the biggest touch tours ever!
Sharks Sports has always been based around families. Sharks touch, and this tour to the Gold Coast is a great example of this as there are many parents travelling and playing alongside their children in respective age group teams.
An example of this is the Enosa Family - Riki with his daughters Ashlynn and Mikayla have been involved with Sharks from its inception. Ashlynn and Mikayla have both come through the grades of touch with Sharks, leading them both to provincial representation and for Ashlynn National representation. Riki is no slouch at the game either representing also at a national level and is well known in the community and throughout touch for his passion and committment for the sport. The family orientated concept has attracted support from National celebrities such as the Osborne Family, with Glen, Kylee, Ariaana and Mako all representing Sharks in Touch.
The Trust is multi-sport with Softball, Netball and 7 Aside Soccer not to mention Sports Holiday Programmes. The organization has recently completed their clubrooms based on Victor Eaves Park, Orewa & are now rated as one of the top Multi-Sport organizations in NZ providing a blueprint to other sports organizations.
